چکیده

Methods Fifteen patients with midfoot arthritis aged between 20 and 60 years participated in the study. Foot function index (FFI) was assessed to evaluate pain before and after the walking activity. Lower leg muscle activity, GRF and gait cycle time during walking were measured under two conditions: “shoe only”, and “shoe with FCF insole”. Electromyography (EMG) activities of the tibialis anterior (TA), gastrocnemius medialis (GCM) and soleus muscles in the involved leg were assessed by multi-channel telemetry EMG. Simultaneously, the GRF was measured under both conditions. The gait cycle was divided into four different phases including loading response (LR), mid-stance (MS), terminal stance (TS), and pre-swing (PS).

Shoe inserts alter inter-segmental foot motion and provide symptomatic relief in patients with midfoot arthritis

Introduction Patients with midfoot arthritis present with disabling pain, which limits their participation in walking and other physical activity. The primary aim of treatment is to afford pain relief and is often attempted using shoe inserts. The custom-molded three-quarter insert (3Q) is recommended as the first line of treatment; however clinical experience shows that patients continue to re...

Shoe inserts alter plantar loading and function in patients with midfoot arthritis.

STUDY DESIGN Experimental laboratory study supplemented by a case series. OBJECTIVES (1) To assess the effect of a 4-week intervention with a full-length insert on functional outcomes in patients with midfoot arthritis; (2) to examine the effect of the custom molded three-quarter-length (3Q) and full-length (FL) carbon graphite insert on plantar loading in patients with midfoot arthritis. The effect of shoe insole stiffness on electromyography activity pattern of selected lower extremity muscles during running on treadmill

The purpose of this study was to determine the immediate effect of three types of shoe insoles, on electromyography activity of selected lower extremity muscles during running on treadmill. The electromyography activity of the rectus femoris, vastus lateralis, vastus medialis, biceps femoris, tibialis anterior and gastrocnemius lateralis muscles of 14 male athletes were recorded in non-insole,...

Chronic Proctalgia from Leg Length Discrepancy Relieved by a Shoe Insole

Background: The pathophysiological mechanism behind chronic proctalgia is not fully understood. The study investigated whether treatment of lower limb length discrepancy (anisomelia) with an insole could relieve levator ani syndrome and chronic proctalgia. Patients and Methods: Nine patients with proctalgia were identified as also having anisomelia. The patients underwent clinical evaluation, i...

Altering footwear type influences gait during level walking and downhill transitions.

The purpose of our study was to determine if altering the insoles within footwear or walking barefoot, as an attempt to increase or decrease cutaneous stimuli, would improve dynamic balance during a hill-walking task. We hypothesize that compared with foam insoles or iced bare feet, textured insoles or bare feet will result in greater speeds, longer step lengths, narrower step width, shorter st...
